Abstract of Special Session
The rapid development of renewable energy, robotics, eVTOL aircraft, and electric transportation are driving increasing demands for electrical machines with high torque/power density, high efficiency, compact structures, and reliable operation under complex working conditions. Meanwhile, advances in computational modelling, intelligent optimization, power electronics, and control technologies are creating new opportunities for integrated design and operation of electrical machine systems.
This Special Session aims to provide a focused forum for recent advances in the design, optimization, modelling, and control of advanced electrical machines and drive systems. Topics of particular interest include novel multiphase, multi-winding, and fault-tolerant machine topologies; high torque/power density permanent-magnet machines; low-loss electromagnetic design and harmonic field modulation; advanced cooling and thermal management; and electromagnetic-thermal-mechanical coupled modelling and optimization. The session also welcomes AI-assisted and data-driven methods for machine design, optimization, performance prediction, and fault diagnosis, as well as advanced power converter architectures and intelligent control strategies. Special attention is given to coordinated machine-converter design, fault diagnosis, fault-tolerant control, and reliable operation under variable and demanding operating conditions.
By bringing together researchers in the advanced design, optimization and control of electrical machines systems, this Special Session seeks to promote emerging methodologies for developing high-performance, efficient, and reliable electrical machine systems for next-generation energy, transportation, and industrial applications.
