Abstract of Special Session
The transition toward low-carbon energy systems is reshaping electricity-market design and system operation. Meanwhile, the increasing participation of virtual power plants, energy storage, distributed renewable generation, data centers, and other flexible resources is creating stronger interactions among electricity, carbon, and computing systems. These changes call for market mechanisms and coordinated operation methods that can better accommodate heterogeneous resources, cross-regional transactions, and emerging forms of sector coupling.
This Special Session focuses on recent advances in market mechanism design and coordinated operation for low-carbon energy systems. Topics include the development and coordination of electricity markets, market-oriented integration of flexible resources, and mechanisms for improving the efficiency and reliability of low-carbon system operation. Particular attention will be given to the aggregation and participation of distributed clean-energy resources through virtual power plants, together with electricity-carbon coordination and the evaluation of resource flexibility and carbon-reduction potential. The session will also discuss the growing interaction between computing and power systems, including the coordinated use of computing loads and power-system flexibility to support more efficient energy utilization and renewable-energy accommodation.
By bringing together electricity-market design, flexible-resource aggregation, low-carbon trading, and computing-power coordination, this Special Session aims to provide a focused forum for researchers and practitioners to exchange recent ideas, methods, and practical experience. It welcomes both methodological studies and application-oriented work concerning market design, resource coordination, system operation, and cross-sector integration. The session seeks to promote closer links between market mechanisms and system operation, and to explore how emerging flexible resources can contribute to reliable, economical, and low-carbon energy systems.
Topics:
- Electricity market mechanism design and coordinated market operation
- Cross-regional electricity market coordination and unified market development
- Market participation and coordinated operation of virtual power plants
- Electricity-carbon interaction and low-carbon energy trading
- Aggregation and flexibility utilization of distributed energy resources
- Coordinated operation of computing and energy systems
- Market-oriented scheduling and optimization of flexible energy resources
- Low-carbon, reliable, and resilient operation of integrated energy systems
